Viansa Winery’s 2006 ‘Vittoria’ Pinot Grigio comes from a small estate vineyard in the Carneros region of Sonoma County, where the wind and fog provide natural air conditioning year round – which is necessary for the Pinot Grigio grape to achieve its floral, fruity characteristics that make it so desirable. Viansa’s 2006 ‘Vittoria’ (which means ‘victory’ in Italian) is the recipient of a Gold Medal from the highly competitive Orange County Fair Wine Competition and is a crisp, refreshing, medium-bodied wine bursting with flavor. Pinot Grigio is the Italian white wine most recognized by American wine consumers and is most prominent in the Italian region of Alto. Pale greenish gold in color, the 2006 Vittoria has distinctive notes of white peach and lemon on the nose that set the stage for the green apple, mango and citrus flavors on the palate. The wine’s crisp, clean acidity is delightfully refreshing and ends with a smooth finish. It pairs nicely with several entrees, and we recommend shellfish, white fish, and chicken, either lightly sautéed, grilled, or lightly sauced with cream or butter. Salmon cakes are a great choice as well!
