Lagier Meredith’s 2006 Syrah is the ninth vintage from their small mountain vineyard in the Mount Veeder District of Napa Valley. Rich, dark, smooth and seamless, it’s an excellent example of the complex, balanced and consummately integrated wine that this vineyard turns out year after year. The flavor of this wine is shaped by the physical characteristics of the mountain site – the shallow soil, the high elevation, the eastern exposure, the cool sea breeze – and the berries are always very small, resulting in wine of deep color and concentrated flavor. Wine & Spirits magazine rated this meaty, spicy, floral Syrah 94 Points and Robert Parker awarded it 92 Points: “Once again, Lagier Meredith has fashioned a beautiful, elegant, complex, dark ruby/purple-tinged Syrah…offers up abundant, complex aromas of flowers, blue and black fruits, forest floor, and earth. The wine possesses sweet tannin, exquisite balance, medium to full body, and no hard edges.” Try pairing the 2006 Syrah with roast lamb chops and butternut squash.
