The 2007 Old Vine “Gamba Estate Vineyard” Zinfandel is a classic, bold, fruit forward style wine from the Gamba family’s small, dry farmed estate vineyard in Sonoma’s Russian River Valley. The wine reveals an attractive, broodingly dark, yet brilliant crimson color in the glass, while aromas of raspberry jam, toasted oak, and allspice engage the senses, and draw you in closer for the main event. Lavish layers of bright, complex, and concentrated fruit unleash a siege of flavors combining boysenberry cobbler, oatmeal, blueberry and pomegranate, all gracefully fanning out on the palate. Well structured, huge yet restrained, polished and satisfying, the wine offers a pleasing, refined spicy oak character on the lingering finish. This signature Zinfandel was tended with care for 14 months, and aged in new American oak cooperage to round out the rich fruit flavors, contributing a striking balance, and incredible complexity. Try pairing with beef fajitas or grilled tri-tip steak.
